Sightseeing Spots: Kakunodate Area
Storehouses and Merchant Houses
Located
south of the Hiyoke (fire shield) , the Goi house, an old sake brewer
and wealty merchant from the Keicho era, and the Sakamoto house of
Kamishinmachi are buildings made in 1910. It was originally built as
a shop-storehouse, a very rare type of building.
Ando Shoyu Brewers in Shimoshinmachi is the oldest remaining kura-zashiki
building in Tohoku (Kakunodate town-designated tangible cultural
property since 1986) . The storehouse facing the street was built
in 1891, learning from the repeating fires in the outer town (merchants'
area) . Bricks made in Shiraiwa, located within the same town, are
used, and the kurazashiki is open to public.
