The Hiburi Kamakura
Splendid rings of fire dance in the snow, making it a festival of mystic beauty. On the evening of February 14, the festival starts in each chonai(neighborhood).
In a Hiburi, a meter-long rope is tied to a sack of coals. Then, fire is set to the sack, and the performer holds the rope and swings it around his/her body.
It is one of the lunar new year events. The sacred fire drives out the bad luck from the rice fields, and people wish for the health of their family and safety throughout the year.
