Hirokunai Sasara Festival (city-designated intangible folk cultural asset)
It is said that Sasara dance was introduced into Akita when the Satake clan transferred from Hitachi. Memory keepers of Hirokunai Sasara, on the other hand, believe that it is originally from the Nambu region.
There is also a legend that Hirokunai Sasara is the combined result of Sasara dance practiced in the Kanto region, and the local region’s ancient lion dance. However, the details of its origin is still a mystery.
